The other day a Comcast rep came to the door. He started asking whether I had cable and whether I played video games. My answer was no to the first question and sometimes with my kids to the second. He was dumbfounded.
I told him I don’t watch tv enough to justify cable and video games take up way too much time. I have a Wii my son won in a raffle but that’s it. In essence I have other things to do and those things are a distraction.
Honestly they are more than a distraction. They also are mediums of deception. Most Christians don’t believe (judging by their actions) that we are in a spiritual war. In warfare outside of the physical battle there is also the mental battle. Propaganda answers the question “How can I weaken the enemy’s will to fight?”
In spiritual warfare it’s simple.
Give people a barrage of ads that tell them they will not be happy unless they drive this new car, drink this new beer, buy this new vacuum. Make sure they forget how good God is.
Give them an endless amount of images that go against the things they claim to believe until it becomes the norm and they start questioning what they believe.
Have them entertain themselves and amuse themselves with games that don’t matter while try neglect the things in life that actually do matter.
This is propaganda.
Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy a good film and tv show like anybody else. These things are not unredeemable but to do these thugs without discernment is sheer foolishness.
So that’s the long answer to why I don’t have cable or play video games like basically every dude on my block.
